Dear Friends, The new year has arrived and I hope it will be even more interesting than 2013 for each of you personally, and for our movement as a whole. The MILSET agenda will be full this year as, after 25 years of existence, we thought it was important to review the Charter, Statutes and Internal Rules to better fulfil the MILSET mission. An important new working group has been established to prepare our next Strategic Plan. The team is composed of representatives from each region and is chaired by Reni Barlow, an Executive Committee member from Canada. During the process, members will be asked to provide their input and we hope that you will contribute actively to these important discussions of our future. The editorial Board at JOSE is doing great work. The name of the MILSET journal was recently changed to "Journal on Science Engagement" to make it more distinctive and to better correspond with the MILSET mission and activities. The journal's mission and structure has also been developed to focus on engaging youth in doing science, and using promotion, outreach and education as means to achieve the goal. You will find more information soon on the MILSET web site. Several upcoming events have already been discussed and accepted, including ESI 2015 that will be held in Brussels, Belgium, from July 19-25, 2015. The website will be launched on July 1, 2014. A great program is already being prepared, so start planning to select your participants to this important international youth science event. An application has been accepted to host ESI 2017 in Fortaleza, Brazil - more information to come later this year. Several member organizations have expressed interest in hosting ESI 2019; applications are now being accepted. On February 1st, the 2014 edition of the MILSET Science Photo Contest was launched and the objective is to continue to increase the number of participants. So open your eyes on science. In preparation for this year's events, students around the world are working to complete their science fair projects and we hope that many will be selected to participate in the 2014 Regional Science Fairs in Amman, Jordan (Asia) and Medellin, Colombia (Latin America) among others. Finally, it is our pleasure to announce the appointment of Lisette Vela Reyes as MILSET Communications Manager. Liz is based at the President's office in Puebla, Mexico and she will support the work of both the President and the General Secretary. Welcome to Liz and, on behalf of all the members, I wish her the best in implementing the first MILSET Communications Plan.
