The 2006 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair Is Coming To Indianapolis May 7-13, 2006 at the Indianapolis Convention Center

The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) Presented by Agilent Technologies is the world’s largest science competition for high school-aged students. Owned and managed by Science Service since 1950, ISEF has played a key role in bringing young people together and generating interest in the sciences. We’re proud to bring this great event to Indianapolis May 7-13, 2006, and the timing couldn’t be better – we need to spark excitement for science among students here in Indiana. To blend with Indiana lifestyles, the convention theme is “Winning with Science”.
The 2006 Intel ISEF will be hosted by the Science Education Foundation of Indiana and the Indianapolis Convention and Visitors Association. The competition will attract 1,400 top science and technology high school students representing the 46 U.S. states and 40 global countries, territories, and regions. Visiting Indianapolis for the first time with the students will be their science advisors and parents. The event will also attract 1,200 expert judges and a panel of Nobel Laureates, building an attendance of 5,000 enthusiasts for celebrating the recent discoveries of tomorrow’s youthful leaders.

A network of more than 400 volunteers is needed to work the event. The volunteers will not only monitor the convention center programs but also supervise the social events. Tourists will visit Indiana’s prominent landmark universities, leading corporations, and the state’s points of interests. Recruiting the top science students to the career opportunities and higher education in Indiana is one reason for bringing the event to the city.

For Indiana K-12 students, a robust educational outreach program is ready to attract as many Indiana students as possible to the 2006 Intel ISEF. We hope that young students viewing the projects submitted by their peers from around the world will be inspirational. But more than that, we want to show our students that science can be cool, and that science is all around us – from music to sports, the cars we drive, video games, and even the food we eat. The Host Committee of the Science Education Foundation of Indiana is creating an exciting week-long experience that will bring this message to life.
